1195. Glendalough

Glendalough - The Glen of the Two Lakes - is a valley celebrated for its beauty and its historical and archaeological interest. The valley is home to one of Ireland's most atmospheric monastic sites, established by St. Kevin in the 6th century. The area also provides excellent rock-climbing, rough scrambling and ordinary hill walking. A visitor centre, located at the mouth of the valley, provides a unique opportunity to interpret the lives and times of the monks who once lived here.

1197. Greystones

Less hectic than its more popular neighbour, Bray, a fishing village on the commuter belt for Dublin Greystones has grown significantly over the past number of years. However, this growth has not spilt the village atmosphere and the ambience of the fishing harbour. The shingle beach is much used by shore anglers as well as bathers. Golfers can enjoy a choice of two golf courses or a driving range close to the town. There are marvellous views from the cliff walk between Greystones and Bray.

1198. Hollywood

Hollywood is a pleasant village at the end of the Wicklow Gap Road. It has long associations with St. Kevin of Glendalough and many pilgrims passed here on their way to the monastic city, until the practice ceased in the last century. The Protestant church has a vaulted roof from the 17th century. About 3km north-east of the village is the picturesque Poulaphuca (Poll an Phuca) where the Liffey cascades in three stages. The Piper Stones, a Bronze Age circle of stones, lies 3.5km to the south-west of Hollywood.
